THIBODAUX, La. – After consecutive victories, the Nicholls State University baseball team will look to keep its momentum rolling in a three-game series at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on March 6-8.
Nicholls (7-8, 1-2 SLC) have won three consecutive games as they beat McNeese in the series finale on Sunday before picking up one run victories over Tulane (6-5) and No. 10 Southern Miss (3-2).
The Colonels' offense is spearheaded by
Caston Thompson who holds a .404 batting average and hit a pair of home runs in the victory over Tulane. Leadoff hitter
Keegan Giger has 18 hits, bats .290, and picked up his 12th RBI in the victory over the nationally ranked Golden Eagles.
Casey Artigues has 11 hits and matches Giger's run total (9) while
Carter Jenkins,
Greyson Shafer, and
Jaxon Milam have 10 hits apiece.
The Red & Gray pitching staff has 145 strikeouts as
Nuno Parache (5.63 ERA),
Dawson Richard (3.18 ERA), and
Cole Simoneaux (7.59 ERA) lead the way with 14 apiece.
Joseph Bordelon has a 1.69 ERA and has 13 strikeouts and two saves.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (8-5) enters the weekend on a two-game losing streak after dropping the series finale against Texas Southern and a midweek contest against No. 25 UTSA. The Islanders' offense is led by Isaiah Afework and Cade Sanchez who bat .441 and .417 respectively. Sanchez has 20 hits and 12 RBI. Their pitching staff has accumulated 124 strikeouts and Preston Watkins (3.00 ERA) leads the unit with 17.
Nicholls enters the series with a nine-game winning streak against the Islanders. Despite the long winning streak, the Colonels trail the all-time series 20-26 dating back to 2008.
