RUSTON, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team put together a dominating performance on Sunday at Louisiana Tech as the Colonels came away with a 6-1 victory at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
 
Nicholls (1-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the No. 1 and 2 courts in doubles. Stephanie Barnett and Milou Pietersz won 6-3 and after LA Tech (0-3) knotted doubles by winning the No. 3 match, Katia Jordan and Emma Kranendonk claimed the No. 2 court, 6-4.
 
In singles, Klara Skopac made quick work of Marta Sramkova on the No. 3 court, 6-2, 6-0, but the Lady Techsters answered with a win at No. 1 as Marie Aubert fell 6-4, 6-2.
 
The Colonels would close out the day by winning the remaining matches in straight sets for their first win of the year. Pietersz and Jordan won on the No. 4 and 5 courts, respectively, for their first career wins, while Barnett won on the No. 2 court and Kateryna Nakonechna took the No. 6 match.
 
"Good team effort by the girls as some of them needed to get on board and get with what we are trying to accomplish here. We are just scratching the surface of how good they can be as individuals and a
team and we will keep pushing ourselves till we get there and we will," said Meenakshi Sundaram, Nicholls women's tennis head coach. "It's good to get a win against a very talented Tech team and with a long break before our next match , we need to dig deep and continue the good work."
 
The Colonels will have a few weeks off before taking on ULM on Feb. 13 in Monroe.
