LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The weather forced the Nicholls State University women's tennis team to play indoors against Central Arkansas, but the change in venue did not result in a change of fortune for the Colonels as they remained winless in conference play with a 6-1 loss on Sunday afternoon at Burns Park.
 
Nicholls (3-10, 0-4) was defeated in doubles, falling on courts 1 and 2, but Isla Brock and Laia Charles earned a 6-3 win on court 3. The Sugar Bears then went on to a 3-0 lead after winning courts 6 and 1 in dominating fashion. Krizia Buck defeated Andrea Mastrippolito, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6, while Xylia Chunan Xiang picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Julia Melendez.
 
The Colonels earned their only point of the day as Brock won at No. 4 against Marli Van Heerden, 6-2, 6-3. Needing just one more point to clinch the team match, UCA's QiLi Ma went on to secure the victory with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Clemence Krug.
 
Central Arkansas (8-5, 3-3) added two more points in singles, winning courts 2 and 5 in straight sets.
 
Nicholls will host Abilene Christian for its next match at the Renaissance Family Fitness center in Houma on Wednesday, March 16.
