THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team picked up a 4-0 victory over Xavier (La.) on Friday evening at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
The match was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., but the rain pushed the start time back to 6 p.m. With the delayed start time, the teams elected to play only singles.
The Colonels won all four completed matches in straight sets.
Clemence Krug gave up just one point on the No. 4 court against Jana van der Walt, and
Julia Melendez defeated Brandi Nelson at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2.
Laia Charles shutout Tess Guarino in the first set in their match at No. 5 before winning the second, 6-3.
Andrea Mastrippolito then clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Vashni Balleste at No. 6.
Nicholls will be back in action on Saturday with a doubleheader against UIW and Louisiana-Lafayette. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
