THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team took on undefeated and conference leader Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday at the Colonel Tennis Complex and fell 6-0 to the Islanders. 
The teams played only singles and the Islanders (17-0, 8-0) won four of the six matches in straight sets. Nicholls dropped the first set in each match, but 
Milou Pietersz and 
Clemence Krug were able to come up with victories in the second on courts 1 and 5, respectively. 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got off to a fast start as 
Andrea Mastrippolito was shutout at No. 6, and 
Isla Brock came up short at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-1 loss. The Islanders then took a 3-0 lead after Krug won the second set against Maider Martin, 6-3, but lost the first and third by the score of 6-1. 
The final three matches were close as 
Laia Charles and 
Julia Melendez went to seven points in three of the four sets, while Pietersz played into a third set. Charles was defeated at No. 4 against Celia Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-4, and Melendez was outlasted on the No. 2 court against Jelena Dzinic, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-2). Pietersz earned a convincing 6-1 win over Hortense Boscher, but dropped the first and third sets, 6-4. 
The Colonels will play their next two matches in Thibodaux, hosting Northwestern State on Saturday (11 a.m.) and Stephen F. Austin on Sunday (1 p.m.).
