HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team closed out its 2016 campaign on Sunday at Southeastern Louisiana and was defeated, 6-1, at the SLU Tennis Complex.
Milou Pietersz closed out her sophomore campaign with a 2-0 day against the Lady Lions (14-8, 6-5). She paired up with
Julia Melendez on the No. 2 court in doubles to defeat Lucia Bustamante and Ceci Mercier, 6-4, but the Colonels came up short in the other two matches to drop the point.

Andrea Mastrippolito fell 6-3. After Melendez and Pietersz tied it up with their victory, the Lady Lions came away with the doubles point as
Laia Charles and
Isla Brock's seven-match winning streak was snapped with a 6-4 loss on the No. 1 court.
In singles play, the Lady Lions won the first four matches before Pietersz picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Dalina Dahlmans at No. 2. Of the five losses in singles, the Colonels had two decided in three sets. Melendez won the first set over 2015 First-Team All-Southland recipient Renee Villarreal on the No. 1 court, but dropped the next two in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 decision. At No. 5, Krug won the second set against Madina Vorotnikova but lost in the tiebreaker as she was defeated 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.
Brock, the Colonels' only senior on the roster, fell in straight sets at No. 3 in her final match for her career. A 2015 All-Southland selection and a two-time singles champion, Brock posted an outstanding 54-25 record in singles in her four years. She also had a winning record in doubles with a 39-32 mark.
