ABILENE, Texas – The Nicholls State University men's and women's tennis teams had another tough day on the road Sunday at Abilene Christian as the Colonels were swept, 7-0, in the pair of matches.
With the setback, the women fell to 6-6 on the season and 1-5 in the Southland, while the men dropped to 4-7 and 0-3.
Lingfeng Gu was the lone Colonel to earn a set victory in singles as she defeated Erin Walker on the No. 1 line, 6-3, before dropping the next two. In doubles play, Nicholls lost on courts 1 and 3, but ended in a 4-4 tie at No. 2 behind a solid showing from
Mariia Kozachok and
Changwei Wei.
For the men, the Colonels had the same fate in doubles, dropping courts 2 and 3 with
Bernard Wezeman/
Sam Meessen's match at 1 ending in a 4-4 tie. In singles, Nicholls fell in straight sets in all six matches.
Max Sinn had the best showing, falling 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) at the No. 4 line.
