MATCH RESULTS
BEAUMONT, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team put up another fight Sunday at Lamar, but despite playing in three tiebreakers in singles, the Colonels were unable to secure a point in a 7-0 loss at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
The teams split the first two completed doubles matches as Lamar (14-7, 6-3 SLC) won court No. 2 and
Andrea Mastrippolito and
Ambika Pande evened up the match with a 6-3 win at No. 3. The point came down to the No. 1 court as the Cardinals came away with the point with a 6-4 win over
Lingfeng Gu and
Clemence Krug.
In singles, Nicholls (6-10, 1-9 SLC) dropped courts 6, 4 and 2 before battling it out in the final three matches. Pande won the first set at No. 3 against Jasmin Buchta but could not hang on in the tiebreaker as she was defeated 4-6, 6-2, 10-8. In the top match, Gu and Katya Lapayeva traded 6-3 wins before Lapayeva took the tiebreaker, 10-4. On the No. 5 court,
Changwei Wei came back from a first-set loss but was outlasted by Talisa Merchiers, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 12-10.
