MATCH RESULTS
THIBODAUX, La. – Stephanie Barnett improved to 15-4 at the No. 1 line in singles with a three-set victory against Lamar, but the visitors came out on top in the other three three-set matches to hand Nicholls a 6-1 loss Sunday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
Including a sweep of doubles, Lamar (4-13, 2-6 SLC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Barnett put Nicholls on the board with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 over Jasmin Buchta. But
Anastasia Kuzevanova,
Lingfeng Gu, and
Mariia Kozachok were unable to come away with wins in their three-set matches.
Lamar took the doubles point with wins at courts 1 and 3. In singles,
Changwei Wei and
Marina Vigil were dropped in straight sets at lines 6 and 4, respectively. Following Barnett's win, Kuzevanova was outlasted against Natalia Molina, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to give LU the 4-1 victory.
With the match already decided, Kozachok and Amelie Vossgaetter slugged it out in a 7-6 (2), 6-7 (5), 10-8 battle at the No. 3 line. Kozachok was 5-5 heading into the match, but the loss put her below .500. At No. 2, Gu also won her second match against Sanja Jolic but was defeated 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3.
With the loss, the Colonels fell to 11-9 overall and 2-7 in the Southland Conference. They head into their final two matches tied for 10th in the standings and are currently a match out of the eighth and final spot in the Southland Tournament.
