Final Stats MATCH RESULTS

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 6-1 loss to Texas State Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Texas State (2-0) swept doubles play before going on to win the first five matches in singles. The Colonels' Antonia Roessli was the lone player to win a set, taking the opening one at No. 4, and she went on to take down Josefina Cassara, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9, to prevent the shutout.

Roessli, who was playing in her first team match for the Colonels (0-1), battled back for a 3-0 deficit in the deciding tiebreaker. She then held off match point to tie it up at 9-9 and took the next two points to clinch it.

Another freshman, Daphne Haverkamp, also had a strong showing in her debut. She fell in a close straight-set decision against Joy Chia Ming Ming at No. 5, 7-5, 6-4.

Texas State cruised in its doubles wins, 6-2 and 6-1. On the top court, Stephanie Barnett and Haverkamp were trailing 5-4 before play was suspended.
