KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team received the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award for the third consecutive season. The award is given to teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game.
 
Eleven Division I women's programs received one of the four awards. Joining the Colonels in picking up the accolade were Air Force, Bryant, Florida Atlantic, Hofstra, Maine, South Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas A&M, Texas State and Winthrop.

Nicholls received five yellow cards during the team's 18 matches, all of which came during league play.

A total of 104 men's and women's collegiate programs received the award that is given out at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.
