Baseball inks 11 on National Signing Day

THIBODAUX, La. -- With National Signing Day officially wrapped up, Nicholls State University head baseball coach Seth Thibodeaux is proud to announce 11 new additions to the Red & Gray clubhouse, as eight high school student-athletes and three junior college transfers are set to arrive on campus next fall and join the the Colonels on the diamond come spring 2021. In just his first offseason as the Red & Gray recruiting coordinator, assistant coach Zach Butler managed to secure a solid cast of incoming prospects, signing seven out of Louisiana -- including five local studs -- two Texans and one from each Mississippi and Florida.

"I'm very excited about the balance of what we're trying to get in terms of physicality, athleticism, plus a couple of arms that can step in and help us right away," Thibodeaux said. "A catcher, a physical catcher who can really defend and has a lot of intelligence, some very athletic infielders, and some versatile players as a whole. I think a couple of these position players can be program changers for us. [AC Zach] Butler did a tremendous job of finding some versatile players and then signing a number of physical guys that can play at this level."

I just like the way he plays, and with him coming out of Paris Junior College, I feel really comfortable about his abilities. The head coach over there, Clay Cox, is a very important guy in the development of these kids, and we were really lucky to pick up two players from Paris this year."

He's got a really really, really good approach offensively, he's a left handed hitter and definitely a leadoff type. He's really versatile and we feel really excited about him coming here."
