FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University women's tennis student-athlete
Dareen Hassan has been named Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
A native of Cairo, Egypt, Hassan led the Colonels to three straight victories over league affiliates Bryant and NJIT and SLC member New Orleans. She was perfect at No. 3 singles with a 3-0 mark and also went 2-1 in doubles. Hassan earned straight-set victories against Bryant and NJIT and her three-setter against New Orleans in the Southland opener tied the match at 3-3. The Colonels went on to knock off New Orleans, 4-3, to claim their second-straight Southland opening victory.
Hassan has been impressive in her first season as a Colonel, posting a 10-4 record in singles. She has won five consecutive matches and eight of her last nine.
