THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University senior infielder Edgar Alvarez has been added to the Bobby Bragan National Collegiate Slugger Award (BBNCSA) watch list. The award is  presented by SR Bats
 
Alvarez is one of four student-athletes who were added during the season, joining Florida's Jack Caglianone, Duke's Ben Miller, and Florida State's James Tibbs III, and is now one of 56 hitters who have been nominated.
 
The Orlando, Florida has been a force at the plate for the Red & Gray. He boasts the nation's fifth-best batting average (.437), 23rd most hits (62), 38th most doubles (16), and his 35 free passes help him hold the 11th best on base percentage (.536). He has produced 51 RBI and has scored 47 times.
 
Head Coach Mike Silva spoke about Alvarez's growth over the years and the respect he's earned.
 
"The greatest compliment you can give a player is the respect of the locker room and
coaching staff and Eddie has that unanimously in our program," Silva said. "He takes hard coaching, studies the game, and has transformed himself into not only one of the best hitters but one of the best overall players in the country."
 
Silva also talked about the impact Alvarez brings to the program.
 
"He exemplifies everything it means to be a Colonel and has left a legacy at Nicholls that will be nearly impossible to replace, and we are very grateful for that."
 
The Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation will honor annually the most outstanding offensive baseball player on a Division I team, based on personal integrity, athletic performance, and academic achievement.
 
This annual award will benefit the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Scholarship program, a program that has provided the promise of over 900 college scholarships worth more than $2.2 million.
 
The winner of the award and their school will receive a trophy in recognition of their achievement and a $2,500 donation will be made to the winner's school's General Scholarship Fund in the name of the player.
