THIBODAUX, La. - After leading the Nicholls State University tennis program for nearly a decade,
Greg Harkins has resigned as head coach to pursue other opportunities, Vice President for Athletics
Jonathan Terrell announced Monday.
Assistant coach
Kaitlin Canzoneri will serve as the interim head coach.
"We want to thank Coach
Greg Harkins for his nine seasons of dedicated leadership as our head tennis coach," Terrell said. "Under his guidance, our student-athletes achieved the highest GPA among our teams and grew into well-rounded individuals with bright futures. His commitment has left a lasting impact, and we wish him the very best in his next endeavor and all of his future pursuits."
Harkins led both the women's and men's teams and notched a combined 132 victories during his tenure which included three postseason wins. The women's squad secured back-to-back opening-round victories in the 2023 and '24 SLC Tournaments while the men won their opener in '22. This past year, Harkins helped oversee the event as Nicholls hosted the Southland Tournament for the first time in school history.
Off the court, the tennis teams excelled in the classroom. This past spring, the Colonel women's program was named ITA All-Academic for the ninth consecutive season as they posted a team 3.86 GPA. The men's team garnered the honor in eight of Harkin's nine years.
"It's been an honor to serve the kids and build the programs Down the Bayou at Nicholls", Coach Harkins said. "My kids fought hard on court and excelled in the classroom. As their coach, I can say that I am proud of what we achieved but even more so that I helped graduate young men and women who will be successful in life for many years to come!!"
