THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team had its final tune-up before starting conference play and the Colonels came away with a 4-0 victory over Xavier (La.) on Wednesday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
"I was very pleased with our women's team today, it was a total team effort against a much-improved Xavier squad," said
Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "
Stephanie Barnett played extremely well, and it was good to see her out there. Changwei (Wei) and Ana Kuzevanova did some great things at the bottom of the lineup. The girls have been working hard in practice, and it paid off today, and it's going to help us as we transition into conference play against a tough Abilene Christian team."
Nicholls had a close match in doubles before taking the No. 1 and 2 courts. The duos of Barnett and
Lingfeng Gu and
Marina Vigil and
Mariia Kozachok finished nearly at the same time, winning 6-4 and 6-3.
In singles,
Anastasia Kuzevanova breezed through No. 6 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 against Julia Anglin. Kozachok then made it 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 and Wei closed it out with a straight-set win at No. 6, winning both 6-4.
