Colonels dropped at home against NSU

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end in a 7-0 setback against Northwestern State Monday at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

The loss dropped the Colonels to 8-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference. Northwestern State improved to 8-5 and 4-0 in league play.

"It was a great wake-up call for us," said Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "We're going to fight to get us to conference, and Northwestern State is at the top of our league. We still have a lot of work to do, and we have a big one coming up at Southeastern."

The Lady Demons claimed the doubles point with a pair of convincing wins on courts 2 and 3, allowing a lone point. In singles play, the Colonels were unable to win a set, with only one going into extra points. At the No. 2 line, Lingfeng Gu came up short against Polina Ivanova, 6-4, 7-6 (10-2).
