TROY RESULTS | ALABAMA STATE
THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's tennis team picked up a split in its weekend trip to Alabama as the Colonels were defeated 6-1 against Troy before earning a 4-3 victory over Alabama State.
Stephanie Barnett led the way with three-set wins in No. 1 singles in both matches. Her win was the only one for the Colonels against Troy, and on Sunday, she helped the Colonels battle back from a 3-1 deficit.
"It was really intense out there, and it was a heck of a battle," said
Greg Harkins, Nicholls tennis head coach. "I'm very proud of our team and how we fought back. We did a lot of growing up today."
The Colonels (6-3) started out with a 1-0 advantage after taking courts 2 and 3 in doubles.

Mariia Kozachok won 6-3, and

Anastasia Kuzevanova earned the No. 3 court, 6-4.
But Alabama State's bottom half of the singles lineup allowed the home team to gain a 3-1 lead. However,
Lingfeng Gu and Kozachok won in tight straight-set decisions, taking courts 2 and 3 by the scores of 7-5, 7-5 and 7-6, 7-5, respectively. The match came down to the No. 1 line with Barnett squaring off against Reka Szentes. After dropping the first set, Barnett went on to improve to 3-0 in singles for the week with a 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 win.
Saturday against Troy, Barnett defeated Sanae Ohta on the No. 1 line, 7-6, 6-7, 10-8. Kozachok also won a set in singles but went on to drop the match at No. 3.

The Colonels will play their next three matches at home, starting Wednesday against SIUE. First serve at the Colonel Tennis Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
